Hydrology Research

The goal of the Hydrology component is to better understand how fire affects ground cover (vegetation, litter), soil hydraulic properties, soil nutrients and the micro-landscape in a sagebrush ecosystem. To reach that goal, we will measure micro-landscape characteristics, ground cover, soil structure, soil hydrophobicity and nutrients as well as infiltration before and after prescribed fires and simulate the respective changes with statistical as well as process-based models. This research will provide the foundation for a process-based understanding of post-fire hydrology and vegetation recovery in sagebrush ecosystem.
