Since 2008, Nevada EPSCoR has provided scholarships to over 800 undergraduate students through the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP), with funding support from the National Science Foundation’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). The program is currently being supported by funding from the Nevada NSF EPSCoR Harnessing the Data Revolution for Fire Science (HDRFS) project.

In the UROP, students identify a mentor and work with their mentor to write a proposal for a Summer of Academic Year research project. Through their undergraduate research experience, students acquire research skills (literature review, research methodology, data collection, and analysis), learn about ethics in research and scientific writing, and improve their oral communication skills.
